In an effort to enhance transparency and customer service, the Austin Code Department has partnered with Civic Industries, LLC to launch the innovative online dashboard you see below. This dashboard will update, alert, and inform you about code cases in your neighborhood. This tool will access our case management system, and provide the current status of cases around Austin, which will update daily. Below you will find a demo on how to use this new tool.
The Austin Code Community Volunteers partner with the Austin Code Department by acting as neighborhood liaisons, providing education on city codes to their neighbors, participating in community cleanups and other events. The Austin Code Community Volunteers program seeks to make Austin a more livable city by enhancing and expanding upon the services, capabilities and reach of the Austin Code Department.

The City of Austin adopted an ordinance on Feb. 23, 2009 prohibiting intentional feeding of deer.
The City of Austin requires building permits to convert or renovate a garage into a living space (this includes a storage room, bedroom, game room, office, etc.).
All private haulers that collect, remove, or transport waste, recycling, and/or organic/compost within the City of Austin for a fee must obtain a Private Hauler License (City of Austin Code 15-6, Article 3).

All rental properties that have received numerous health and safety complaints within 24 consecutive months are required to register with the City of Austin Repeat Offender Program by City Council resolution (Ordinance No. 20130926-012; Ordinance No. 20141120-003). This ordinance requires inspections and other guidelines for rental properties falling under the "2-5-2" conditions.
All employees performing construction activities at a construction site are entitled to a rest break of no less than ten (10) minutes for every four (4) hours worked by City Council resolution (Ordinance No. 20100729-047).
Chapter 13 of the City’s Local Amendments to the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), defines a Rooming/Boarding House as a building that is not a hotel, motel, bed & breakfast or short term rental that provides lodging (with or without meals) for 7 or more unrelated individuals. A license is required to operate a rooming or boarding house.
A person may not allow stagnant water that is likely to promote disease to accumulate on the person's property. A person shall drain, fill, or re-grade the person's property to remove or prevent a violation of this subsection.
Did you know that grass and weeds more than 12 inches in height is considered an unsanitary condition and a code violation? The city ordinance (City of Austin Code 10-5, Article 2) requires that grass and weeds be maintained below 12 inches.
Owners of Short-Term Rentals (STRs), sometimes called Vacation Rentals, are required to obtain an operating license annually (Ordinance No. 20160223-A.l).
