The Robbery Unit is responsible for investigating robberies of individuals, businesses, and banks within the City of Austin. The unit conducts and documents robbery and robbery related investigations to include going to crime scenes, conducting interviews and interrogations, issuing and executing warrants and making referrals to courts and other agencies.

The Unit also assists other law enforcement agencies such as the FBI on robbery-related matters. Members of the Robbery Unit provide ongoing training and education in robbery crime trends and investigation to other Department members.  They also provide training and educational programs to banks and other institutions.

The Robbery Unit is comprised of One Lieutenant, Two Sergeants, 18 Detectives, One Crime Analyst, One Victim Services Counselor, and One Administrative Assistant. Two of the detectives in the unit are assigned to work with the Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force, which is a multi agency team who investigates bank robberies and other select federal offenses that occur in the Central Texas area. Task force detectives are selected on a competitive basis and only those who have demonstrated the ability to work well under pressure and thrive in a team environment are considered.

The Robbery Unit is staffed 24 hours a day, either with detectives in the office or in an on-call capacity.
