HousingSmarts is a free training that puts you on track for home ownership. This training satisfies the homebuyer education component of a number of financial empowerment programs managed by NHCD, specifically eligibility for Down Payment Assistance program
Am I eligible for HousingSmarts?
• First-time homebuyers, including those who have not owned in 3 years or recently displaced by divorce or natural disaster
• Residents within Austin city limits
• Have a household income is at or below 80% of Austin's median family income
• City of Austin employees (regardless of income) can sign up on TRAIN
Registration for HousingSmarts/ Training Dates
To register for a HousingSmarts class, consult the 2018 Class Schedule below. Reserve a spot by sending this registration form by e-mail or mailing it to the address listed on the form. Alternately, you can 512-974-3100for assistance or more information. Applications must be received and processed at least 48 hours in advance of the class. Complete applications are processed in the order they are received and in order of class dates. Once your application has been processed, you will be notified via email if you've been approved, denied, or we need more information.
If the HousingSmarts Home Buyer Education schedule does not fit you needs, or you need a class offered in Spanish, please check with the Business & Community Leaders Homeownership Classes or the Frameworks Community Development Corporation. Both organizations offer similar homebuyer trainings that can be used for NHCD of financial empowerment programs.
