The Austin Blind Salamander (Eurycea waterlooensis) gets its name because it does not have image-forming eyes; this is a result of adapting to life in its primary habitat - the dark, underground waters of the Edwards Aquifer that feed Barton Springs.
The Barton Springs Salamander (Eurycea sosorum) is a small (1/2" to 3" long), obligately aquatic, paedomorphic (retaining juvenile characteristics, such as gills, throughout its life) salamander that is found only in the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer and its contributing zone.
The Jollyville Plateau Salamander (Eurycea tonkawae) is a small, brownish, aquatic salamander. It is a member of the family, Plethodontidae, also known as the lung-less salamanders (oxygen exchange occurs entirely through their skin and/or gills in aquatic species).
